GOVERNOR of Nagaland Dr. Ashwani Kumar today opined that he has perceived Nagas to be “very open and blunt when it comes to speaking the truth.” He commended that they also have the moral courage to bear the consequences of speaking the truth. The governor said this while releasing a book ‘The Raging Mithun: Challenges of Naga Nationalism’ authored by Dr. Abraham Lotha, at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Wednesday.
The governor congratulated the author for compiling a book that spoke the truth from both the traditional and contemporary point of view. Kumar said to have gone through the book and found the content scintillating ‘coupled with an impressive writing.’
So far, the governor said, uplifting the youth and women are two aspects of growth that can help the Naga society to achieve peace and prosperity in Nagaland. As for bringing about positive change in the society, Kumar said that the church and educational institutions have a major role to play.
On Dr. Abraham Lotha, the governor called the educationist a man of religion and education. Dr. Lotha has shown courage in coming up with a book like ‘The Raging Mithun: Challenges of Naga Nationalism.’ The governor expressed hope that the people would benefit and be encouraged through his literary work.
Dr. Abraham Lotha is a former journalist, a commentator and a catholic priest. He is also presently the principal of St. Joseph’s College in Jakhama, in Kohima.
‘The Raging Mithun: Challenges of Naga Nationalism’ is published by Barkweaver Publications. The book is a compilation of articles written for Nagaland dailies by Dr. Abraham Lotha over the past 21 years. The content broadly deals with three basic issues, according to the author: confronting the contemporary Naga society starting with the Indo-Naga conflict followed by a set of articles that confronts the relationship between Christianity and Naga culture, and the evolving Naga culture through festivals.
Friends and well wishers of the author who attended the book release function included social activist Niketu Iralu, Kohima Education Trust member Dr. P. Ngullie, Michael Heneise of Barkweaver Publications among others.
