Guv lauds contributions of the Konyaks

Konyak Union Kohima celebrates Silver Jubilee cum Aoleang Monyu festival

STATE Governor, Dr. Ashwani Kumar, has appreciated the crucial role played by the Konyak community towards cultural, political and social uplift of the Naga society and added that the bravery and courageous displayed by the community was well acknowledged by many scholars.The Governor said this while addressing the silver jubilee cum Aoleang festival celebration of the Konyak Union Kohima on April 4 at the Naga Heritage village, Kisama, as the chief guest. President of Angami Public Organisation (APO), Keneingunyu Sekhose, was the guest of honour of the programme.
In conveying warm greetings to the Konyak community on the occasion of Aoleang festival, the Sate Governor also released souvenir in commemoration of silver jubilee. He opined that the contributions made by the Konyak leaders whether be it cultural, political, social etc were well known to the State. He acknowledged that the Konyak community is playing a crucial role in Naga society through their bravery and courageous nature which was acknowledged by many scholars.
Though Mon district is lagging behind of development, connectivity and infrastructure, in comparison to other districts and the literacy rate is the lowest in the state, he is of the view that the activities of KUK would immensely help the district as reflected in their manifesto. He has urged the Konyak Union, ENSF, ENPO etc to monitor the mid day meal scheme as it plays a every important role in enhancing the quality of education as well as the literacy rate in the state.
President of KUK, P Longang, delivered the presidential address while short speeches were delivered also delivered by the first KUK president, L Noklem, and President KU Mon, S Manlip.
Special number was presented by Wangcha, while folk tune was presented by Nahalan. Khiamniungan and Konyak troupes presented folk dance. Pastor of KBBK, H Moba, invoked God’s blessing and the vote thanks was proposed by Convenor Silver Jubilee KUK, T Ngamjok.
Aoleang programme started after the main Jubilee programme with the president of ENPUK, David Thingchum, as the special guest. Competitions in folk song and dances was organized where participants from different areas like Wakching, Tapi, Tizit, Phomching, Chen, Aboi, Tobu, Longching and Mon participated.
