Tepulesa Thapru, John Thakuri, and others on the first day of GSUCD’s 1st Annual Sports Meet being held at Singrijan village on Wednesday.

DIMAPUR — The Gorkha Students' Union Chümoukedima District (GSUCD) kicked off its 1st Annual Sports Meet on December 27 at Singrijan village.

It is being hosted by Singrijan and Khopanala villages on the theme ‘Empowering students through sports’.

According to a press release, speaking on the inaugural day, UBSI Tepulesa Thapru, the OC of Sovima Police Station, stated that education alone is not enough for students and that they should also focus on sports, which helps them to be disciplined.

Meghraj Lama, president of Gorkha Students' Union Kohima, who was the guest of honour at the inaugural programme, remarked that God has blessed Gorkhas in many ways and encouraged the gathering to take sports as a profession.

In his address, special invitee John Thakuri, president of All Nagaland Gorkha Students' Union, urged the Gorkhas of Chümoukedima district to be good citizens and contribute to the growth of Naga society.

The meet will conclude on December 29.
