DIMAPUR — As Nagaland prepares for the Hornbill Festival 2023, a GST workshop was held on Wednesday at the Directorate of Tourism office in Kohima for travel agents, tour operators, hotels, homestays, and restaurant owners.

The workshop’s goal was to educate businesses and professionals in the tourism industry about GST and how it applies to their operations, according to a press release.

It was organised by the Central GST Commissionerate, Dimapur, in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism, Start Up Nagaland under the department of Industries and Commerce, and R Abraham and Associates.

The release mentioned that as the tourism industry is steadily growing in Nagaland, travel agents, tour operators, hotels, homestays, and restaurants have an important role to play in collecting GST from their customers.

It added that when a company’s annual turnover exceeds INR 10 lakh, it must register for GST and begin charging GST at the applicable tax rate to its customers, which must then be paid to the government every month along with the filing of GST returns.

The resource persons for the workshop were the additional commissioner of CGST, Sashi Wapang, and chartered accountant Rohan Abraham.

It was followed by an interactive session in which participants asked questions about the tax compliance requirements of businesses.

This was the third in a series of such workshops.
