[dropcap]S[/dropcap]HIRLEY MANSON penned an open letter to Kanye West on Monday criticising the singer for his televised rant against Beck at the Grammy Awards. The 48-year-old Garbage singer took to Twitter to defend Beck after Kanye, 37, said he should give his award for Album Of The Year to fellow nominee Beyonce.
‘Dear Kanye West,’ Shirley wrote at the start of her posting.
‘It is YOU who is so busy disrespecting artistry. You disrespect your own remarkable talents and more importantly you disrespect the talent, hard work, and tenacity of all artists when you go so rudely and savagely after such an accomplished and humble artist like BECK,’ she wrote.
‘You make yourself look small and petty and spoilt. In attempting to reduce the importance of one great talent over another, you make a mockery of all musicians and music from every genre, including your own,’ she continued. ‘Ps. I am pretty certain Beyonce doesn’t need you fighting any battles on her account. Seems like she’s got everything covered perfectly well on her own,’ Shirley added for good measure.
Shirley’s posting so far has received more than 24,000 likes on Facebook.
Kanye raised eyebrows when he took to the stage on Sunday night when 44-year-old Beck was named winner of Album of the Year for his work Morning Phase.
Paul Stanley says Beck should have kicked Kanye West ‘Right in the Nuts’
Kanye West is apparently lucky he interrupted alternative hero Beck instead of Kiss star Paul Stanley last night at the Grammys.
“Beck should’ve kicked Kanye right in the nuts and said, ‘Get the f— of MY stage!,’” Stanley declared on Facebook. West — who famously interrupted Taylor Swift’s win at the 2009 VMAs to declare that Beyonce was more deserving of an award — pulled a similar stunt during Beck’s Album of the Year acceptance speech last night. Although it seemed like a lighthearted joke or self-parody at the time, with West offering a sly smile and not actually speaking, later on he made it clear he had problems with Beck winning the award over Beyonce.
