Dimapur, July 20 (EMN): The Griffin Football Club won the 2nd Edition of the New Jalukie Super League (NSL) by defeating Hornbill Football Club by a lone goal in the final match at New Jalukie playground under Peren district on Tuesday.

Organised by senior football players and sports enthusiasts of New Jalukie, the NSL is an annual football 7-a-side event, and it was held from June 25 to July 19, according to the organising committee. It added that each of the participating six clubs were allowed to have a guest player and should have a minimum of two U-18 players with an aim to mold the budding players.

Playing in front of a huge spectator, both the Griffin FC and Hornbill FC failed to score in the first half. However, Kadichapbo of Griffin FC scored in the 30th minute of the 40-minute match to seal the game for his club, informed the update.

The Griffin FC walked home with a cash prize of INR 50,000 along with a trophy, citations and medals, while the runners-up received INR 30,000 along with citations and medals.

In individual prizes (INR 3,000, citations and medal each), Chingthaipou of Hornbill FC was awarded the Man of the Match; Lungpetsing Thou of Bridge Colony FC – Best Goalkeeper; Gairiupou of Anubis FC – Most Promising Player; Kawijibo of Griffin FC – Top Scorer (7 goals); Chingthaipou of Hornbill FC – Player of the Season; and Gaisinthui Kamei of Hornbill FC – Best Club Manager. It added that Harpy FC was awarded Best Discipline Team.

The update went on to inform that New Jalukie Village Council Chairman Liangkebo Pamai, who was the special quest of the finals, distributed the prizes to all the award winners.

Earlier during the day, an exhibition match was played between New Jalukie Super League

(NSL) officials and Peren District Football Association (PDFA) officials, which 2-1 in

favour of NSL officials.
