DIMAPUR — The 42nd annual sports meet of Greenwood Higher Secondary School got underway on October 4 with Col. Manjeet Katoch, commanding officer of 1st NCC Girls, Nagaland, as the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Katoch stated that games and sports play a vital role in the lives of students as sports groom them to become disciplined and better persons, stated an update from the school.
He urged the players to play in true sportsman spirit and wished them success in every activity they undertook. Katoch also took the salute from the 12 march past contingents comprising of Blue, Green, Yellow and Red houses (intermediate, junior and mini categories respectively) and declared the sports meet opened.
NCC Sgt. Dolimsomba was the parade commander, while Joseph Konyak and Asmita Sangma were the torchbearers.
The school’s vice principal, Hemchandra Singh, administered the oath-taking.
Earlier in the programme, the school director, Asito Peseyie, in his welcome address, expressed gratitude to the chief guest, youth of Kuda ‘B’, elders of Kuda village and the parents for their cooperation and active support.
The inaugural programme started with an invocation prayer pronounced by the director of Mission and Evangelism of the school, Ketusilie Sakhrie.
