Greenwood School sports meet 2022 underway

Bithungo Kikon giving away medals to winners of the girls’ 100 metre dash event on the first day of the 41st Greenwood School sports meet 2022 on Wednesday.

Dimapur, Sep. 14 (EMN): The 41st Greenwood School sports meet 2022 commenced on Wednesday at the school premise with president, Dimapur Athletics, Nagaland, Bithungo Kikon, as the chief guest.

Declaring the 41st Greenwood School week open, the chief guest in his address said it was a pleasure to grace the Greenwood School sports week as the school is one of the premier institutes in the field of games and sports, an update stated.

Kikon said Nagaland is in on an equal footing with other states and second to none when it comes to sports and games. He also highlighted the many initiatives undertaken by the state government for sportspersons.

Encouraging the students to do their best, be it in academic or sports, he added, “to succeed is easier said than done unless we have goals and determination and consistency.”

He also expressed optimism that Greenwood School would produce many medal winners, both in national and international levels.

Earlier, Tsiebulie of class 10 and Ashuni of class II, the overall champions of the school’s 40th sports week, lit the sports torch. This was followed by march past from 12 contingents led by parade commander, Peteneizo Kapfo. Vice principal, Greenwood School, Hemchandra Singh, administered the oath-taking ceremony.

The school principal, Nelie Kath, in her welcome address, said sports play a vital role in fostering tolerance and unity amongst the students.

The inaugural programme started with invocation by Thejaseno Angami.
