DIMAPUR — A training workshop on organic farming was organised by the Green Caravan, a service provider for Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) phase 4 under the Department of Agriculture.
The event, held on October 25 and 26 at the SDAO office in Baghty, aimed to empower farmers from 11 villages, including Baghty town, Upper Baghty, Soku, Makharon, Nitsuyan, Sanis, Meahangpen, Tsopo, Yonchucho, Sunglup, and Lakhuti.
These villages form the Lotha Middle Range Farmers Producer Company Limited, established under MOVCDNER phase 4, stated a press release.
The programme was attended by Renathung, sub-divisional agricultural officer (SDAO), who encouraged farmers to uphold the principles of organic farming as outlined in the MOVCDNER scheme and assured them of all possible support from the department.
Renathung emphasised the importance of sustainable farming practices and the long-term benefits of organic certification for both the farmers and the region.
The technical session covered essential aspects of organic farming, including the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) guidelines and the management of the internal control system at the farmer level.
Farmers were also provided with insights into market trends to strengthen market linkages for their organic produce.
It stated that farmers participated in discussions on crop-related issues and explored ways to improve yields through organic practices.
