The Hornbill Music Festival for 2014 was an experience that was as exhaustive as it was enriching for the organizers, Nagaland Outdoors’ Club and Sky Entertainment. The musical celebrations began from December 1 through to December 10.
For the organizations, the celebrations began with a personal adventure though, months prior to the actual event. We have no doubt that the Kohima event was a 10-day experience of not just music and ‘good times’. In our humble assessment, it was an engagement that told personal stories of toil and professionalism. Equally, it was a reflection of the commitment Nagaland Outdoors’ Club and Sky Entertainment gave when they began work: offering entertainment at both value and class.
Through the 10-day festival, staged primarily at the Indira Gandhi stadium in Kohima, a host of musicians from state’s music circuit, the national scene, and the international arena performed to scores and thousands.
Besides the Hornbill International Rock Contest, international artistes such as Smokie, Vinnie Moore, and tribute band Bon Giovi performed to eager thousands. The contest was also a highlight which once again brought to the fore the fact that the North East region and India’s music market remains largely untapped – the brilliance and passion of the bands continue to astound us.
In all this, if we might humbly say, we could not have met at least a degree of expectations if not for the one and many who stepped forward to collaborate with us, support, and share in the partnership that the Music festival demanded.
With all gratefulness, NOC & Sky Entertainment thanks individuals and ground organizations such as Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, NRE & Music Task Force Khriehu Liezietsu,
the Music Task Force, the print and electronic media in Nagaland and India; sponsors, support services, and partners and judges, and patrons; one and each of who are one too many to name individually. We wish we could!
The efforts, time, and commitment from the ground staff and the tweakers, from security to the volunteers to service providers, the creative and the managers, the prompters and support bases have not contributed any less to the success of the event; and, of course, most of all, the music lovers and well-wishers who ensured that our humble initiative did not go redundant.
We profoundly wish we could call each of you by name and thank you, if not for the obvious constraints. All we, NOC & Sky Entertainment can say is that it was because of you that the Hornbill Music Festival could be. It was by each of you that the Hornbill Music Festival for 2014 gave us something about the year to remember.
Once again, our sincerest gratitude to you, one and all.
Sincerely,
Al Ngullie,
