Kohima, May 22 (EMN): In an attempt to develop football at the grassroots and further to discover and catch talents at tender age, a free football coaching camp for the age group between 6 – 12 years got underway this evening at Kohima local ground.
The five-day coaching camp, held under the theme ‘Make football happen’, is being organised by the Nagaland Football Coaches Association (NFCA) and co-sponsored by the department of Youth Resources & Sports, Havells Galaxy Kohima, Toyota Okusa Dimapur and Kohima District Veteran Football Association.
On day-one, around 15 football aspirants responded to avail the free coaching. Though the turn-out was not satisfactory on the first day, the NFCA, however, has informed that the invitation is still open and therefore anyone willing to participate may join the training even on the remaining days.
Interacting with media persons, NFCA president Roko Angami and technical director William Koso said the minimal turn-out was due to the ongoing mid-term exams in many of the schools in Kohima. It may be mentioned that over 70 young footballers attended the free coaching camp held earlier this year in Dimapur.
To make it convenient for the students to attend the coaching camp after classes, the NFCA has rescheduled the timing of the training to 3.30 pm onwards. Young footballers are therefore asked to come with their sports kits and birth certificate (Xerox) at the venue. Participation certificate would be awarded for the campers.
Sharing about NFCA’s plans, the president Roko Angami informed that they will be conducting similar training in all the districts, with the next likely in Peren or Mokokchung.
