Solar Sakhi Batch 3 graduates at AIDA, Don Bosco Dimapur, with DC Dr. Tinojongshi Chang highlighting government subsidies for solar initiatives.

DIMAPUR — The graduation day of Solar Sakhi batch 3, organised by the ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Planning and Development Office (PDO) of the Salesian Province of Dimapur, was held on Tuesday at Don Bosco Campus, Dimapur.
According to an update, the three-month training programme aimed at empowering women with technical skills in solar energy, entrepreneurship and leadership.
In his welcome note, Rev. Dr. Roy George SDB, Executive Director and Chief Functionary of AIDA, congratulated the trainees on completing the course. He stated that the Solar Sakhi programme imparts technical knowledge while nurturing confidence, responsibility and leadership among women.

He explained that the initiative equips rural women with skills in solar installation, maintenance and basic entrepreneurship, enabling them to become self-reliant clean energy entrepreneurs. He encouraged the graduates to utilise their training to establish their own ventures and serve as role models by bringing clean energy solutions to their villages.
Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, attended the event as the special guest. He appreciated AIDA for organising skill-based training programmes aligned with the government’s vision for women empowerment.
Highlighting the importance of renewable energy, he noted that government subsidy schemes support solar initiatives, with beneficiaries receiving up to 90 per cent subsidy and contributing only 10 per cent. He also referred to the buy-back policy for surplus solar power, which enables households to generate additional income.
The DC assured support from the district administration and encouraged the trainees to apply their skills and explore available financial assistance and loan facilities.
During the programme, the Solar Sakhis acknowledged Lily Pungroila and the instructors from Bindi International, Rajasthan, for their guidance. They described the course as a transformative journey that strengthened their confidence.
The programme also included cultural presentations, distribution of certificates and the presentation of the Best Solar Sakhi Award.
