DHFW launched a GPS-enabled mobile medical unit for Noklak under Tata AIG's CSR initiative to deliver free primary healthcare services to remote communities.
DIMAPUR — The Department of Health & Family Welfare (DHFW) on July 24 launched a GPS-enabled Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) for Noklak district at the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima.
According to a DIPR report, the initiative has been supported under TATA AIG General Insurance Company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, reflecting the company's continued commitment to improving healthcare access for underserved communities.
The MMU will function as a Mobile Ayushman Arogya Mandir, delivering Primary Health Centre (PHC) services and essential healthcare packages to remote and hard-to-reach areas of Noklak district, ensuring quality healthcare reaches communities at their doorstep.
Representing TATA AIG, Madhukar Sinha and Devang Pandya said the MMU is the third such unit supported by the company in Nagaland and has been launched to mark TATA AIG's 25th anniversary.
They said the initiative is part of the company's broader CSR efforts to promote accessible healthcare and education while creating sustainable social impact in underserved regions.
Commissioner & Secretary, DHFW, Anoop Khinchi, who attended the programme as the special guest, underscored the importance of preventive healthcare and greater public awareness of health issues.

He stressed the need to educate communities on healthy lifestyles and the impact of dietary habits on overall well-being.
Officials from Swasti, Joseph Julian and P. Bhoopathy, described the MMU initiative as a long-term commitment rather than a "give-and-go" effort, aimed at delivering life-saving healthcare services to people living in Nagaland's difficult terrain.
They also informed that the initiative has been supported with medical equipment worth approximately INR 20–22 lakh across six districts.
Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Dr. Keveduyi Theyo, described the launch as a historic milestone for Noklak district, saying residents would now have access to dedicated mobile healthcare services free of cost.
He noted that the district had previously depended on a mobile medical unit shared with Tuensang district.
Short speeches were also delivered by Chief Medical Officer, Tuensang, Dr. Imlitemsu Ozukum; president of the Khiamniungan Union Kohima, Dr. Thanghoi Lam; and Secretary, DHFW, S Tainiu.
The speakers expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for making the initiative possible and acknowledged the collective efforts that helped bring the project to fruition.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Neikule of The Entrepreneurs Associates, followed by the ceremonial flagging off of the mobile medical unit by the dignitaries.
