Dimapur, August 8 (EMN): Government Polytechnic Kohima (GPK) organised its 17th annual freshers’ social programme in its auditorium on August 5 with the senior budget analyst of Finance Department, Ketoulhou Metha as the chief guest.
Speaking at the occasion, Metha congratulated the students for their successful entry to the prestigious institute and encouraged them to make the best use of their stay. Terming the ‘student-youth’ stage as a very short period, he encouraged them to concentrate on their studies as their future will depend on how they utilise their time today.
“We need to live a disciplined life to compete with others or even get a good job,” Metha maintained. He has termed the Nagas as fortunate to be Christians as the Holy Bible provides complete guidelines on how to live a life. While pointing out that bad habit will distract one from their goal, he called upon the students to fear God and refrain from bad habits.
Stressing on the need for dignity of labour in every field, he encouraged them to work hard and do everything with dignity. Metha quoted, “Winners never quit- quitters never win.”
Emphasising that we are living in a world of transition, he said it is important to adapt ourselves to such changes with time. He advised the students not to comprise with hard work, sincerity and faith at any cost. Mentioning the importance of technology, he urged the students to use them for the right purpose, to gain knowledge and ease lives. He also appealed all the students to work hard, fear God and be a responsible citizen so as to become an asset to the society.
GPSUK president, Moasunep Longkumer, delivered the welcome speech, while Yinglang presented the welcome song. Speech on behalf of the freshers was delivered by Zhovelü Puro and GPSUK assistant general secretary, Jesse K Awomi, pronounced the vote of thanks. The ‘Unplugged’ also presented a special song titled ‘House of Gold.’
Earlier, Tolika Achumi offered the invocation prayer, while Ruokokhrienuo pronounced the benediction.
The day was marked with Mr & Miss Fresher 2017 contest. After two rounds of contest, Rukuto and Meriyani were declared winners of the competition. The penal of judges included lecturer of CSE, Hangkum Sao Chang; lecturer of FT Chubamenla; and lecturer of CSE, Erenpeni Tsanglao.
