Dimapur, Nov. 27 (EMN): Noting that government employees now make attending work a ‘choice with excuses,’ Chief Secretary Temjen Toy has told them to ‘start earning their salaries’ and not ‘forget the promises they made during interviews’ with the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
The chief secretary said government jobs are in demand in the state and ‘everyone wants them, but attending office has now become a choice with excuses which has become the norm for government service.’
The official was addressing the Nagaland Secretariat Service Association’s plenary session for 2019, conducted on November 27 in the Secretariat. Toy was a special invitee to the event.
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave updates on Wednesday informing about the programme.
He urged the NSS staff to ‘retrospect on the NPSC examinations they had appeared for and to always remember the promise they kept during the NPSC interview to serve the people.’
Recalling his initial days in office, Toy said he learned more ‘file work’ from the NSS officials and that assistance still stands. They are the backbones of the Secretariat, he said while also noting that they have an advantage in that their jobs are non-transferable.
That said, he urged the gathering to ‘attend office as a choice and earn their salaries,’ the IPR stated.
The president of the NSSA, Johnny Humtsoe, gave the presidential speech. He said, ‘Today, we are dispirited and confused having lost focus on purity of thought and direction,’ the IPR reported in its updates. ‘He said that with the spirit of hope one can be the catalysts and propagators of change. He hoped that the NSS would be a wellspring of hope for the Naga society,’ the IPR stated.
Anew team of leaders for the NSSA for 2019-22 has been instated. It is led by Chubasangla Longkumer as the group’s president, the updates stated.
