DIMAPUR — Advisor of Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, unfurled the national flag at DDSC Stadium in Dimapur and also took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents.
In her Independence Day speech, Hekani Jakhalu stated that the government is making every effort to reach out to every section and region to understand their aspirations. She, however, stated that despite the best efforts developmental deficit that had existed right from the beginning still persists in some areas, particularly in the eastern districts of Nagaland.
She stated that ENPO resultantly has been raising grievances of the people from the areas of the eastern districts and have made certain demands, adding that those demands are being looked into by the government of India to suitably address them.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]In regard to the matter of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country, she said that keeping in view the sentiments of the people, the state cabinet urged the Law Commission to exempt Nagaland from the purview of UCC in view of its serious implications on the privileges guaranteed under article 371 A. She added that the council of ministers also met the Union Home minister on this issue wherein he assured that UCC would not be applicable to the Scheduled Tribes of Nagaland and of the Northeastern states.
She also highlighted about the works and achievements of all the departments in the state.
As a mark of commitment towards the war on drugs, a pledge was also administered by the advisor.
On the occasion, patriotic songs were performed by representatives from Government High School Lengrijan, Dimapur, Livingstone Foundation International Dimapur, Lorna Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, while a patriotic dance was performed by the students of Bethesda Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, and cultural dance by a cultural troupe from Diphupar.
