Kohima, Jan. 4 (EMN): Minister of planning and coordination and land revenue, Neiba Kronu, informed that the state government is working towards development of infrastructure to promote sports at par with other states in the country.
Speaking on day-one of the 49th Chokri area games and sports association (CAGSA) in Khulazu Basa village on January 4, Kronu stated that the ruling government in the state is giving priority to make good roads in the state. He added that the government is doing its utmost to bring about infrastructure development at all levels.
Speaking about the value of sportspersons, Kronu said they are the "most respected person in the world." He stated that sportspersons are honoured and respected highly for their professionalism especially in the western countries.
Lashing out at the casual attitude of sportspersons in the state, Kronu has advised strict discipline and following rules and regulations only if they wished to excel in life. He also advised them to maintain "strict diet" to keep them fit and healthy.
On the development perspectives, Kronu has assured to look into the two-lane road work from Chakhabama to Zunheboto and Pfütsero to Phek via Porba road.
CAGSA president, Vetazo Tetseo, in his presidential address, stated that the event was aimed to produce young sportspersons and nourish their talents in order to help them compete at national and international levels.
The president also informed that archery was first introduced in the event this time. He also acknowledged Hunezo Thisa, recipient of Dr. T Ao trophy 2018, and Venüzo Dawhuo, acclaimed Naga style wrestler. He conveyed best wishes to all the players.
On the occasion, department of post launched CAGSA's special cover envelop at an amount of INR 20. The envelop could be used at both the national and international levels.
Earlier, Kronu unfurled the CAGSA flag and lighted the tournament torch. Chairman of Khulazu Basa village council, Vechohü Chüzho, delivered the welcome address, while the Naga Idol finalist Shenieta Churha presented a special song.
