Chief Secretary, resource persons and the trainees posed for a group photo during inaugural programme of the induction training programme at ATI Kohima on May 4.

Kohima, May 4 (EMN): Perhaps, a first of its kind in the State, a three-day induction training programme was organised to reorient the government employees toward citizen’s service. The inaugural programme was held with the State chief secretary, Pankaj Kumar, as the guest of honour at Multi-purpose Hall, ATI, Kohima.

The primary objective of the induction training programme was to develop professionalism among the government employees, to adjust and get acclimatise with the working system of the government and ushering towards preventing making costly mistakes, informed Kevekha Kevin Zehol, Additional Director (Admn) of Administrative Training Institute (ATI).

While lamenting the absence of a structured and extensive induction and in-service trainings in the past years, Pankaj Kumar said there are expectations and responsibilities from the government employees.

Stating that government works are getting more complex over the years, which required skill and professional workers, Kumar said the induction training programme will clarify on their roles and responsibilities of what is expected of them and also help and equip them will skills and knowledge. He also said the training programme will help develop a sense of camaraderie among the trainees, which in turn will promote better communication and coordination in terms of sharing ideas and knowledge within and across the departments.

He added that the training will expose the trainees on the basic office procedures, ethics, discipline, leadership, various laws, standards and norms of the government structure.

Noting reluctance among the engineers to speak, Kumar encouraged them to have a view of their own while preparing and presenting projects. He said this practice will help them as they climb higher in their profession.

In her keynote address, Director of ATI, Lithrongla G Chishi pointed out that there never has been any training of this kind in the State earlier. She exuded confidence that through this training programme, the trainees will be benefitted as they perform their duties, which in turn will benefit the people of the State through their professionalism. At the same time, she lamented that one of the main drawback and hurdle was getting good resource persons whenever any training programmes are conducted.

She cited some instances on the reluctance of the experienced and knowledgeable persons even when requested for their inputs, experiences and support. She also noted the absence of commitment among the people towards training in the State.

While reminding the trainees on the State training policy whereby every government employee will have to go through this induction training programme, Chishi expressed hope that with the beginning made today, they will be able to carry forward in serving the needs of the State in providing qualified and committed government servants.

While acknowledging the constant support and encouragement from the chief secretary towards making this training programme into a reality, she also assured of her department’s support to shoulder the responsibility of training government cadres from various fields.

Although the inductions training programme is being organised for technical services of both the engineering and medical personnel, both trainees and resource persons from the medical department failed to turn up for the training programme.

The resource persons for the three-day training programme includes Deputy Director of ATI, Er. N Moa Longkumer; Deputy Director of ATI, Dr. Hovithal N Sothu; Member SIC and retired Chief Engineer of NPWD, Er Champimo; Engineer-in-Chief, Er.
