Governor’s Award, Dr. T Ao Award: State honours its achievers

Ao Sports Award for 2018 at the Raj Bhavan, Kohima on Aug. 15.[/caption] Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): The Nagaland government’s annual state award for excellence, the Governor’s Award, and the recent sports award, the Dr. T. Ao Sports Award, were given away on Wednesday to citizens who have distinguished themselves in their respective areas of pursuits. Dr. Hosheto Y Chishi was awarded the Governor’s Award for folk art, and folk singers Tetseo Sisters were given the Governor’s Award for folk music. Four sisters Mercy, Azi, Kuvelu, and Alune Tetseo, from the Chakhesang community, form the group. Dr. T. Ao Sports Award: Four sportspersons were honoured with the award in recognition of their distinction in the field of sports. The awardees are Sepaktakraw coach HolsheKhrie-o; archery coach HunezoThisa; athletics coach KhriehutuoTsira; and sports administrator I Bendang. The state awards were presented by Nagaland Governor PB Acharya at a grand award distribution ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima during the Independence Day celebrations. Acharya and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio have expressed hope that the achievements of the citizens would motivate and encourage young talents to attain distinction in the field of sports, music, art and literature. Also, according to DIPR updates on Wednesday, Rio exhorted the winners to be ‘original, vigorous and consistent in their respective fields so as to scale greater heights.’ He said that the government had identified sports, music and art as an ‘industry’ and that the government was working to promote it.
