Dimapur, Jan. 23: Governor PB Acharya today said education should make us feel that we have a duty to strengthen our society. Addressing the students of Tetso College on the occasion of Scholastic Day 2017, Acharya said ‘Knowledge should be for the uplift of the society not for ourselves.’
Expressing pride to be among the educated young people, Acharya reminded the students that life should wonderful, prosperous and peaceful besides achieving academic excellence.
On the occasion, Governor urged the Naga youth to change their mentality in looking only for white collar jobs but to persevere and be self reliant without depending on government.
“Nagaland government cannot absorb every single BA, B.Sc. and B.com student for administrative work as they are overloaded,’ the Governor said.
He also asked how many of them had been able to enrol poor and neglected people as member of the Jan Dhan Yojgana.
Meanwhile, the Governor announced a scholarship, Governors Award in the name of Dr. T Ao with an amount of Rs 50,000 for Tetso students, the details of which would be worked out in coming days.
Kvulo Lorin, Director and Administrator of Tetso College, delivered the welcome address, while Tetso College choir presented a song followed by releasing of third E-book by Ms. Kahor Raleng, HoD, English.
Dr. Hewasa Lorin, the college vice principal, gave away award to the students and a special performance was presented by Mountain Music Academy formerly known as Furtados. The valedictory speech was delivered by Ms PS Reisangnim, B.Com 6th semester student.
Political Science Assistant Professor, Dr. Salikyu Sangtam, launched the Tetso College 5th volume of the Interdisciplinary journal published by the Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur.
Nagaland Chamber Choir also presented a special number titled ‘My Song’ written by Rabindranath Tagore. The programme concluded with a benediction said by Daniel Khan, Assistant professor of Political Science.
