DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 20: Having received negative feedbacks from the people on the dismal performance of government departments, State Governor PB Acharya sounded urgency to review the overall activities in all departments so that the fruit of development reaches the targeted beneficiaries.
The Governor, who was on a two day visit to Mokokchung, said this during meeting with the district administration, security agencies and all head of departments in the ACD’s (Planning) conference hall on November 18. The Governor asked the officers of the district to ponder whether they are marching ahead with the rest the country or standing still, saying that there is an urgent need to review the overall activities in all the departments.
The Governor said government officials being the servants of the people should evolve plans and strategies to work for the welfare of the people. He said any criticism from the masses should be palatable to an officer.
Acharya said every officer, being highly educated people, should have a social responsibility. He said, “in the first place, one should be a human being and secondly, a patriot and lastly an officer.” Advising the officers to humble in their assigned duties, Governor said in a democratic country “everyone is a king and nobody is a king.”
The Governor lamented that everywhere he went in the State, he heard dissatisfaction from the people about the pathetic road conditions, hospitals and schools, while the only response from the departments concerned was “we can do better.”
Stating Nagaland has to rise up, the Governor suggested for a monitoring agency apart from the government to review the activities in the departments to ensure implementation of every programme so that beneficiaries are benefited. Further reminding that everyone has a soul, the Governor urged the officers to be true to one’s faith.
Security agencies also briefed the Governor about the prevailing law and order situation in the district.
