Dimapur, Feb. 9 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland PB Acharya has called upon banking institutions in the state to assist and motivate young entrepreneurs to establish themselves. Banks have positive roles to play in developing the society, he said during an interaction with bank officials from Kohima and Dimapur, at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Feb. 9.
The governor was of the view that development cannot be brought by the government alone—banks have as much responsibility in developing the society. He called upon the banks in the state to help and motivate young entrepreneurs in establishing themselves by extending all help possible.
Acharya suggested that the banks tie up with universities and colleges to interact with students and enlighten them about how banks could be of help to them once they graduate from the institutions.
“There should be dialogue between universities, industries and banks for the development of the state,” he stated. Acknowledging that it was not the duty of banks to hold camps and interactive sessions for students, the governor however felt it was time for banks to reach out.
Also, Acharya expressed concern regarding the absence of banks in most parts of Nagaland. The governor felt that the districts of the state should be connected with all major banks and made available the banking facilities to all. He requested the various bank branch managers to write to their head offices regarding opening branches in all districts of Nagaland.
Bank officials also highlighted the governor on the various schemes and welfare programme launched by the Central government and how they are being implemented in Nagaland. The governor encouraged the banks to continue implementing the schemes and to help the targeted group.
A meeting with various bank officials from Kohima and Dimapur was called by the governor for the first time in Raj Bhavan where 16 banks in total attended the meeting.
Principal secretary to governor, Piyush Goyal, welcomed the bank officials. The meeting was also attended by senior officers from the governor’s secretariat.
