DIMAPUR — Nagaland Governor, La. Ganesan, on Wednesday stated that the rich cultural ethos and spiritual depth of Nagaland with the essence of traditional values and pursuit of spirituality stands as the state’s commitment to harmony and community living.

Ganesan stated this during the inauguration of Spiritual and Value Education (SAVE) summit at India International Centre in New Delhi. The event was jointly organised by Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar Vishwa Hindu Vidyapeeth, The Educational Standards and Testing Council of India, International Association of Educators for World Peace and The Global Open University Nagaland and supported by Confederation of Indian Universities, Confederation of Young Leaders, Problem Solver Organisation, Indian Institute of Ecology and Environment.

Highlighting the importance on inclusion of spiritual and moral values in all the schools, colleges and universities, the government stated that the need for spiritual and value education has never been more pressing and that educational institutions need to become beacons of holistic learning, stated a DIPR report.

Explaining some of the core tenets of spiritual education such as interconnectedness, mindfulness and self-awareness, he stated that teaching students on meditation, reflection and contemplation can help them develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their place in the world, which in turn help them navigate complexities of life with clarity and composure.

He stressed on the importance of students to be taught about appreciating diversity, practice inclusion and foster the spirit of unity in diversity, the foundation upon which a peaceful, prosperous and harmonious society is built.

Ganesan called upon the professors and teachers to help mould the character and outlook of the future generation and integrate value based lessons in their teachings. He also encouraged the students to be a light in illuminating the darkest corners of ignorance and prejudice. He further exhorted all concerned to create an environment where ‘learning is not just about how much we know but also about how much we care for each other.’

He released a 961 page ‘Book on Nagaland’ covering all aspects and the perspective plan for the state by suggesting 100 point strategy for the optimum development of Nagaland.

He also congratulated the Founder Chancellor of The Global Open University Nagaland, Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi, and wished for his longer life.

The governor also congratulated all the National Value Education Excellence Award recipients, which were presented to 80 teachers and 100 students from 20 important schools and 50 professors and 30 students from different colleges and universities.

The Spiritual and Value Education Day celebration also coincided with the 28th annual day of Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar Vishwa Hindu Vidyapeeth.

The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi, president of SAVE Summit, while a host of other distinguished guests also addressed the gathering.

During the occasion, awards and appreciations were presented to various schools, colleges and universities. Chancellors, vice chancellors, principals of various universities and colleges, teachers and students of schools and other dignitaries were among those who were present.
