Dimapur, March 2 (EMN): Expressing concern over the welfare of the Nagas living in Myanmar, Nagaland governor, PB Acharya, called for development activities in the border areas of both the countries. Besides, Acharya also called for opening of educational institutions, hospitals, orphanages, skill development centres etc. through border area development activities.
Acharya raised his concern during an interaction with the visiting delegates of Union Solidarity and Development Party from Myanmar consisting of 11 members, who called on him at Raj Bhavan, Kohima, on March 2.
Appreciating the delegates for their visit to the state, Acharya urged for development activities in the border areas of both the countries. Stating that human concern was needed, the governor called for opening of educational institutions, hospitals, orphanages, skill development centres etc through border area development activities.
The governor also encouraged Private Public Partnership (PPP) welfare activities with participation from various NGOs from both India and Myanmar for the development and strengthening both the nations. He explained the Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC), a Mumbai based NGO, was working for the people of Northeast by organising student-teacher exchange programmes, medical camps in border areas etc.
Acharya also encouraged the delegates to arrange for Nagas of Myanmar to visit not only the state of Nagaland but to also conduct Bharat Darshan from time to time so as to strengthen ties between the two countries. He also called for cultural exchange programmes between the two countries. Acharya stated that NEZCC could also sponsor cultural programmes and exchanges with Myanmar Nagas.
The delegation led by U Than Htay expressed their desire for further developing the Naga administered areas of Myanmar.
The meeting was also attended by minister of higher education, Temjen Imna Along.
The delegation from USDO was sponsored by the India Foundation, an independent research centre focussed on the issues, challenges and opportunities of the Indian polity. The Foundation believes in understanding contemporary India and its global context through a civilization lens of a society on the forward move, a press release by PRO to Governor stated.
