Dimapur, June 13 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland PB Acharya has paid tribute to the contribution of blood donors as ‘because of these heroes that we believe life will be given a better chance.’
The governor’s office issued a message on Tuesday marking World Blood Donor Day. The governor thanked the blood donors for their contribution to lives and society.
PB Acharya said that every year on 14 June, countries around the world observe World Blood Donor Day. He said that the event was established in 2004 which aims to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.
“Let’s take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every blood donor. It is because of these heroes, that we believe life will be given a better chance. Thank You Dear Blood Donors” he stated.
In the words of the press release, donating blood is an active way of helping others and the whole of society ‘because each blood donation provides three different blood components, each with its own role in treating patients, it helps up to three different people.’
“We don’t just need to give blood in the event of tragedies or emergencies. Instead, it should be a normal and routine part of our lives. Regular blood donations mean that there will be sufficient amounts of safe blood in stock,” the governor stated.
The governor of Nagaland has called upon community and civic organisations, scout and guides, ex-servicemen etc., to organize blood donation camps on different occasions.
“It is a healthy gesture. We must keep this aptitude up at any cost. Our blood banks are running short of required blood. By organizing such blood donation camps we may help them to enrich their capacity”, he said.
Stating that blood donation was a ‘human duty,’ Governor Acharya has urged citizens to come forward and donate blood ‘as blood donation is one of the most significant contributions that a person can make towards the society.’
Blood donors to mark day with sales day
The Network of Blood Donors (NOBD), a voluntary organisation that channelize free blood donors to the needy patients and creates awareness on blood donation, will be organising a ‘sales day cum awareness program’ coinciding with World Blood Donors Day on June 14, at the Super Market Bazaar, below the GB office in Dimapur.
Along with sales of food items, jumble sales and other items, the fund of which shall solely be used for the needy people alone, there will also be an interactive session where queries on Blood related issues will be discussed as well as potential blood donors / willing blood donors can get registered in NOBD for future reference, a press release from the group informed on Tuesday.
“Do help us to serve our people. When you donate blood , you donate to them a chance to survive back and live a life which had it died when it was not a saved soul yet , would had been really painful for the Lord’s Kingdom,” the note stated.
“When you donate blood, through your kindness you spread another chain of humanity through you. It’s a beautiful thing to donate and to save life. People need people like you and me to make this world a better and easier place.”
