Governor PB Acharya today mooted holding Kohima Night Carnival at least once every week and appealed the State government and Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) to work out the arrangements.
Interacting with media persons during his visit to the enlivened and brightened eighth day of Kohima Night Carnival being held under the aegis of KCCI and supported by State government, the Governor cheerfully said, “This is the real Nagaland and it should continue at least one day a week so that the people can come out and enjoy instead of sitting gloomily at home.”
KCCI should also extend support with all the arrangements so that people can come out of the suffocation and enjoy while many will also do good business, he said. This should continue specially on Saturdays as it is the right time, he opined.
Though allowed to enter the Carnival stretch on his official vehicle with Ashok Chakra, the Governor after being warmly received by the KCCI officials at their Carnival office walked till Razhü Point interacting, purchasing goods and also enjoying the vegetarian edibles like pokaras, steamed sweet rice, papad etc.
While privileged shopkeepers were offering goods free of cost to the visiting Governor, he didn’t accept but paid for the goods purchased.
Offered the non-vegetarian items, specially ‘Moudi (large pieces of meat deliciously cooked by Angami tribe) and roasted pork’, Acharya, being a vegetarian, smilingly said ‘Thank you… I can only s mell it’.
After spending more than 30 minutes in the Night Bazaar, he readily accepted the request of children for a group photo while also wishing success and extending greetings for a Joyful Christmas to people of Nagaland.
Responding to the call of the Governor, KCCI president Jabou Sekhose asserted him that they would follow it up. The KCCI had earlier announced to hold Summer Night Carnival from next year.
