Governor Kumar releases ‘Different Strokes’

Coinciding with the World Disabled Day celebrations, Nagaland Governor Dr. Ashwani Kumar today released a book towards spreading awareness on disability entitled “Different Strokes” at Raj Bhavan here today.Authored by Easterine Kire, the book is an attempt to create awareness amongst the school going children in the age group of 8-15 years not to discriminate or bully their fellow mates with disability.
Containing 63 pages and prized at Rs. 150, the book speaks on how differently abled school going children are bullied by some of the fellow students and the problems faced by them in school.
It also contains notes for parents and schools on how to avoid raising a bully or accepting differently abled persons and not just tolerance.
Maintaining that it requires lots of efforts to change the attitude of the people towards differently abled persons, he expressed happiness that such a book written in simple language was published to spread awareness.
He hoped that it would spread awareness amongst the general masses and help in treating the differently abled without any discrimination.
In her introductory remarks former Editor of Eastern Mirror, Diethono Nakhro said the differently abled are considered cases of charity while there is zero opportunity ion the state for people with disabilities to explore their talent.
She said that book is an effort to spread awareness amongst the people to accept the disabled.
The author, Easterine Kire said that the book is an effort to create awareness about the practical obstacles faced by people with disabilities. “We are all differently abled and we want to spread the message of acceptance through the book,” she said.
