Governor greets on National Press Day

Urges media to display highest standards of professionalism
Dimapur, Nov. 15 (EMN): The Governor PB Acharya on Wednesday greeted the media fraternity of the state on the occasion of the National Press Day which is commemorated every year on Nov. 16
“On the occasion of National Press Day, I convey my warm greetings and good wishes to all the members of the media fraternity of Nagaland. I trust that the occasion will motivate every member to be more responsive, responsible and proactive. I am sure that my media friends of Nagaland will continue their excellent tradition of constructive journalism, displaying highest standards of professionalism in their duties,” stated the press release from the Raj Bhavan.
The head of the state also stated that the media plays a “pivotal role” in shaping the society and has also become a bridge between the government and the citizens. The consistent coverage by all forms of media on each and every issue of the society creates a bigger impact and thus making it one of most important of professions at present.
He observed that the challenges of the media are wide ranging without any particular pattern and therefore acknowledged that the Press Council of India’s theme for the year, ‘Challenges before the Media’ as timely to discuss the freedom of the press without impairing the accepted ethics.
” I hope this will ensure towards evolution of a new media system that would lead to media freedom and the people’s right to know without vitiating media ethics. The press is one of the foundation stone of democracy and its freedom is an essential pre-requisite in a world of challenging phase of media reporting today,” he stated.
He further appealed the media to play the vital role in creating a new India which is strong and prosperous; free of communalism, casteism and terrorism.
“I extend my best wishes for the successful celebration of the day hoping that our media continue to represent the voice of the people of the state.”
