DIMAPUR— Underscoring the importance of education to empower the people as well as to protect and preserve indigenous culture, Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan said that educational activities should not just be confined within the four walls of the classroom.
The governor has encouraged institutions to provide more opportunities to the students on activities like personality development camps, exposure tour to different states, Science tours, participation in children science congress at state and national levels, organise literature competitions, cultural days etc., which are part and parcel of an educational system for wholesome development of the students.
The governor stated this while interacting with the students and school managing committee members of Zeliangrong Heraka School from Tening under Peren district at the Dr. Imkongliba hall of Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Thursday. He stated that India may be a land of diversity, but it is a land of unity in diversity, an update from Raj Bhavan stated.
The governor expressed happiness to note that students from 25 villages of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland are benefited by the school. He added that most of the students of the school are from poor and underprivileged families and the teachers are honorary social workers in the institution. He marveled that from just a mere primary school when it was first established, the school is today a high school serving the people of not just Nagaland but even Assam and Manipur.
The governor was happy to learn that the school aims for all round development of tribal community, emotional and cultural integrity of the nation with the expectation that once the people are educated they would be able to contributed their time and energy for the development of the state and the country.
The governor further expressed happiness to learn that the school has secured 100% pass result in HSLC exam for 13 years consecutively since 2011 and attributed the achievements as a testament of the hard work put in by the students, teachers as well as the school management.
The school administrator, Talamsi Newmai, has highlighted about the school establishment, aims, achievements and performances. She acknowledged the governor and his staff for hosting the interactive programme for the benefit of the students.
The students performed cultural dance and patriotic song during the event.
Meanwhile, the Kohima Nagar Samity of Janjati Vikas Samity Nagaland (JVSN) held a reception programme for the teachers, school managing board members and students of the Zeliangrong Heraka School, Tening, at the multi-utility hall of the Gorkha Public Panchayat Complex in Chandmari, Kohima, on June 28 with the advisor of Prison, Printing and Stationery, Kropol Vitsu, as the special guest.
Vitsu expressed happiness to interact with students, teachers and school managing board members of the school. He also expressed happiness to learn that the school had secured 100% result in the HSLC examination under NBSE for 13 years consecutively since 2011 among 34 high schools in Peren district.
He expressed delight to know more about Heraka, its values and contribution of its workers and also spoke on the importance of unity among tribal people for the development of the country.
Students have performed patriotic song, cultural dance, and other items.
