Governor designates police personnel as election officials
Dimapur, Oct. 5 (EMN): In regard to the bye-election to fill casual vacancy in Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 58 Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency, Nagaland Governor has designated police personnel as election related officials under Section 28A of the Representation of People Act 1951.
A press release from the chief secretary, J Alam, stated that all officers and ranks of Nagaland police from Director General, Additional Director General, DlG, Commissioner of Police under whose jurisdiction the assembly constituencies going for bye election fall and all police officers below them including Home Guards, Village Guard as election related officials with effect from the date of notification for election till the completion of the bye-election to 58 Shamator-Chessore (ST) Assembly Constituency.
It stated that police officials who are involved in any way in election related arrangement and perform duties in connection with the conduct of the bye-election to 58-Shamator-Chessore (ST) Assembly Constituency are by law, officers of Election Commission, being deemed to be on deputation to it, and are subject to its control, superintendence and discipline and as such are answerable to the Election Commission for any acts of commission or omission on their part while performing any election related duties.
