Dimapur, April 27 (EMN): Governor PB Acharya has written to five banks including Nagaland Rural Bank, Nagaland State Co-operative Bank Ltd, UCO Bank Central Bank of India and United Bank of India operating in Nagaland to open its new bank branches in strategic rural areas to enable people of the area to avail banking facilities and for implementation of Central and state flagship welfare programmes. This was stated in a press release received from Raj Bhavan of Friday. The governor in a letter addressed to the managing directors and CEO’s, stated that he had met with bank officers and urged them to open new branches in all districts of Nagaland. He said that there were hardly any branches in other districts of the state apart from Kohima and Dimapur. People in rural areas are unaware of the banking facilities and schemes provided by the Government through banks, the governor added. Acharya is stated to have had a meeting with 20 bank representatives on Feb. 9 at Raj Bhavan in Kohima and the mentioned banks have so far taken up the proposal of the governor with their head offices to open branches in the other districts of Nagaland.
