Dimapur, Feb. 27 (EMN): Nagaland governor, PB Acharya, held an interactive meeting with service providers including cobblers, barbers, dhobis, vegetable vendors, tailors, street vendors, domestic helpers, newspaper hawkers etc at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima, on February 27.
Acknowledging their roles, Acharya stated that they provide the much needed services to the large section of society and are an integral part of everyone’s life. He opined that in their absence, people have to travel long distances to procure necessary goods. The governor further stated that one should not be ashamed of their job saying all work is equal. “Service to mankind is service to God,” a press release issued by PRO has quoted the governor as stated.
The governor has encouraged the gathering to avail various central and state government schemes to further strengthen their establishments and business. He also explained the various welfare schemes and programmes of the government to the service providers. He stated that there were various schemes to help them stand on their feet and strengthen the society.
Acharya also called upon the citizens to recognise their services and to respect every profession. He has urged upon the society to work towards strengthening the service providers for the benefit of all.
Commissioner and secretary to the governor, Dinesh Kumar, stated that it was a first in the history of Raj Bhavan, Kohima, that the governor and his lady wife have initiated such a programme for the service providers. According to him, the main objective of the programme was to recognise their service to the society and to give them equal respect.
He further stated that Acharya is very keen on the welfare of the service providers and wanted to make them aware of the various facilities, benefits, legal protection and government welfare schemes and programmes and to help them in every possible way. He said the purpose of the interaction was an attempt by Raj Bhavan to look into the welfare of the service providers.
The programme was also attended by representatives from the banking sector. The participants also gave brief presentations on various schemes and loans available at their respective banks for the benefit of service providers.
Short speeches were also delivered by the deputy director of RSB, Rajeev Dong, and Sanuo Vamuzo. Both of them have thanked the service providers for their services and encouraged them to continue their work towards the welfare of the society.
The formal programme was followed by cultural presentation by troupes from Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. All the service providers were also given a certificate of appreciation for their services towards the society signed by the governor.
