Dimapur, March 15 (EMN): The All Nchangram Students’ Union, Zeme Students’ Union (N) and Tening Students’ Union have expressed discontentment at the state government for their inaction towards an ‘abandoned’ stretch of road from Peren town to Tening in Peren district.

In a joint statement, the student bodies have stated that the 52 km long road is meant only for heavy vehicles given the deplorable condition of the road.

“Consequently, with the onset of monsoon which is at its threshold, the roads will look like the riverbeds with incessant deluges owing to rainwater which is quite dreadful to board on vehicles. One has to unremittingly experience a bumpy ride throughout the journey with lots of potholes and a deep chasm on the roads,” it read.

The student bodies have therefore served an ultimatum to the state government to repair the entire stretch of the road with “black-topping before the onset of rainy season” within one month’s time.

It warned that the unions would take their own course action if their demands were not met.

It further stated that the concerned department should be act as ‘public burdens alleviator by being conscientious, transparent and committed in discharging its obligatory responsibilities and to be empathetic to the ultimate needs of the public because the department exists solely for the welfare of the people’.
