KOHIMA — Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome on Tuesday said that the government is “redesigning” schools across the state by way of improving infrastructure, governance and administrative records, curriculum and outcome.
The advisor was speaking at the inauguration of the newly upgraded building of Government High School, Phezoucha, in Kohima.
Emphasising the importance of amalgamation of schools, Yhome said the improvement would ease parents’ burden of finding another school for their children at a higher level. He said that such amalgamation has greatly improved student enrolment.
He also stressed the need for behavioural and attitudinal changes of the public towards government schools.
The advisor said that in Naga society, the public is made to feel that those who are not like others are made to go to government schools, which is not true. He added that the government is overhauling the school system and “rebranding” it.

The Nagaland School Standard Authority would supervise schools across the state, he said, while expressing hope for improved curriculum and improved performances.
The advisor also noted that 34 students from private schools have migrated to GHS Phezoucha during the last and the current academic year.
Head teacher of GHS Phezoucha, Ketouneinuo Mepfuo, said the new facility has four classrooms and students of classes 6 to 9 are expected to shift to the new building.
As of this academic session, the class is till 9 and class 10 will start next year.
GHS Phezoucha started its academic session in 2006, initially known as Education Guarantee Scheme (EGS), a voluntary service from the community members.
It was upgraded to a full-fledged government primary school in 2010, government middle school in 2022 and now the academic year for high school is starting in 2026.
The school has 20 teachers and the current enrolment is 204 students, but more students are expected to enrol. A total of 21 students from private schools have also enrolled in the school this year, Mepfuo informed.
