Government Polytechnic to impart technical courses to 285

With jobs in government sector reaching its zenith and the formal educational institutions not being job oriented, around 285 candidates would be undergoing various technical courses, including regular and free community college under the Government Polytechnic Kohima (GPK), Nagaland from the current session.
The programme known as Community Development Through Polytechnic (CDTP) sponsored by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development was formally inaugurated by Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Finance Commissioner, Temjen Toy, IAS during the formal function held in the Conference Hall of GPK here today.
The regular three year courses, include Computer Science Engineering, Modern Office Practice and Fashion Design and Apparel Production while free courses are Community College for one year – Fashion Technology and Information Technology; CDTP for about 25 technical skill development sectors ranging for a period of one week to 5 months and Gandhi Institute of Computer Education & IT a three months free basic fundamental course.
Addressing the gathering, Temjen Toy called upon the trainees not to waste their time but to utilize the skills they learn from the institute to sail their own lives in the right direction with determination, sincerity and discipline.
Lauding efforts of GPK in producing skilled persons and equipping the youths with different job oriented sources, he expressed hope that GPK will turn into a centre of excellence for the youths of the State and them beyond the crossroads of life. Also, informing the authorities of GPK also make their requirements known to the government, he assured of all possible support to the institute.
Taking the opportunity, Toy also urged upon all concerned to adopt resolution to respect the rule of law starting from ‘obeying rules’ and ‘not to litter’.
Director Technical Education, Athili Kathipri delivering a short speech said the state has three polytechnics while six new polytechnics have already been approved for the Dimapur, Peren, Phek, Wokha, Tuensang and Mon districts.
Dwelling on the importance of technical education, he said that it is important for skill upgradation, which is vocational but job oriented courses. He said that future of employment generation for the state of Nagaland will be through technical education. He expressed the hope that the State Government would understands and accepts the reality of technical courses in the State.
GPK Principal Vipulhou Lhoungu chairing the programme also informed that the institute would be commencing courses Civil Engineer, Computer Science and Information Technology from 2016-17, which would be upgraded to degree level.
A brief on CDTP was presented by lecturer & program coordinator CDTP, Keduhiwe Kapfo while lecturer Khrieketuolie Rupreo made power point presented about the activities of GPK.
The programme commenced with Consultant CDTP Neisetsü pronouncing the invocation and concluded with GPK lecturer Mary Puro saying benediction. Special numbers were presented by Male voice final year students and Dovine Venuh.
