Google’s Chrome is overwhelmingly popular with more than 3.3 billion users
Apple’s Safari browser is a distant second with more than 1 billion users.
In the battle for worldwide web browser usage, Google’s Chrome browser is hands down the undisputed king with more than 3.3 billion users globally. Apple’s Safari comes in at second place with more than 1 billion.
According to a report by Atlas VPN, Google Chrome firmly remains at the top as the most popular browser with 3,378,967,819 users world wide. Apple’s Safari is the second-most popular with 1,006,232,879 users across the globe. Microsoft’s Edge and Mozilla’s Firefox come in at third and fourth place with 212,695,363 and 179,084,244 users respectively.
The VPN company said that the report’s statistics were “based on the GlobalStats browser market share percentage, which was then converted into numbers using the Internet World Stats internet user metric to retrieve the exact numbers.”
“Google Chrome is the most popular browser worldwide, with over 3.3 billion users. Application driven design of Chrome attracted more and more people to try out the browser. Web applications including YouTube, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Earth, Maps, and others became a gateway into Google’s ecosystem of online services,” wrote Atlas VPN on its blog.
The report said that Microsoft’s Edge browser overtook Firefox for the third-place spot this year. The company suggested that Microsoft’s Edge was able to overtake Firefox only because of Windows 11.
“Since the release of Windows 11, Microsoft set it as the default browser on all devices and made it difficult for users to change to their preferred option. Therefore, Edge received a significant increase in its userbase,” wrote Atlas VPN.
However, it is worth noting that Microsoft’s Edge browser, especially its new version, is based off of Google’s Chromium.
