Android 14 to launch on October 4

Google is all set to launch the new Android 14 OS alongside its newest lineup of flagship Pixel phones on October 4. The launch date of the new OS was apparently confirmed by Canadian carrierĀ Telus.

The company wrote in a recent forum post that all Pixel devices including the Pixel 4a will be getting the “Android U” update on October 4. It may be mentioned that U stands for Upside Down Cake, which is the internal code name for Android 14.

The post has since been taken down but this could also mean that Google may have asked Telus to take it down after the news went viral on the internet.

Google has yet to officially confirm the news of its new OS launch but the company has already confirmed the launch of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones on October 4.

Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro

Here are some details about Google’s upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones that you can expect.

1. Impressive Displays

The Pixel 8 is expected to boast a 6.17-inch FHD display, offering vibrant colours and sharp visuals. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 Pro is set to take it up a notch with a 6.7-inch QHD+ display, featuring a remarkable 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and an enhanced viewing experience.

2. Powerful Processing with Tensor G3

Reports indicate that both Pixel 8 models will be powered by Google’s in-house processor, the Tensor G3. With a 9-core CPU, this chipset is poised to deliver significant improvements, particularly in AI capabilities, promising a faster and more efficient user experience.

3. Design Tweaks

While the Pixel 8 series is expected to retain some design elements from its predecessor, there might be notable changes. The Pixel 8 Pro could shift from a curved display to a flat one, with rounded edges for a more ergonomic feel. The visor-like camera module introduced in the Pixel 7 series may remain, adding a distinctive touch to the design.

4. Enhanced Photography Capabilities

The Pixel 8 Pro is anticipated to feature a triple-rear camera setup, ensuring exceptional photography capabilities. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 is expected to house a dual-rear camera setup within its distinctive visor-shaped module. Both models are rumoured to introduce AI features like Audio Eraser and the ability to alter faces in pictures.

5. AI-Driven User Experiences

The Pixel 8 series is positioned to leverage AI to streamline user experiences and enhance safety. With features like Audio Eraser and advanced facial recognition, Google aims to deliver a smartphone that not only meets but exceeds user expectations.

6. Pricing Details

Anticipating an enhanced feature set, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are expected to see a $100 price increase compared to their predecessors. The Pixel 8 is rumoured to start at $699, while the Pixel 8 Pro could have a starting price of $899.

7. Regional Pricing Variations

Interestingly, Google’s new Pixel devices are expected to be priced more competitively in the Indian market compared to Europe. The Pixel 8 with 128GB storage is rumoured to be in the range of INR 60,000 to INR 65,000 in India, catering to a broader audience.

8. Expectations Beyond Smartphones

In addition to the Pixel 8 series, Google is anticipated to unveil other products at the Made by Google event, including the Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Buds Pro, showcasing the company’s commitment to delivering a comprehensive ecosystem of interconnected devices.

9. Event Details

The Made by Google event is scheduled to kick off at 10 AM ET / 7 AM PT (7:30 PM IST) in New York City. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed on the Made by Google YouTube channel and the Google Store website, providing a front-row seat to the unveiling of Google’s latest innovations.
