Dimapur, August 13 (EMN): It has been a few days since Google officially announced its newest flagship phones and despite Google’s reluctance to share the specs of the upcoming Pixel 6 phones, data miners have reportedly unearthed the camera and modem details from Android 12 beta version.

Google has officially revealed that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be powered by Google’s own Tensor chip. However, much of the device’s specs like battery, camera and screen resolution are still to be officially revealed. You can read more about the official reveal by clicking this link.

However, a new report by XDA Developers claims that a data miner has found files inside the Android 12 Beta 4 update that suggests the Google Pixel 6 could sport a 50-megapixel camera, specifically Samsung’s 50MP ISOCELL GN1 image sensor.

Google had been previously using Sony’s IMX363 sensor and if the report is true, this is welcome news for a lot of Pixel fans as the Samsung GN1 is considered to be better than Sony’s IMX363 sensor.

Apart from the image sensor, modder cstark27 has also found evidence that the Google Pixel 6 could come with Samsung’s Exynos Modem 5123 (the 5G modem used in the Galaxy S20). The report claims that cstark27 had found a reference to a “g5123b” modem within another system APK.

The modder had apparently found that the “g5123b” modem was mapped to a total of five devices: Oriole, Raven, Passport, Slider, and an unknown fifth product. Oriole and Raven are the code-names for the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro respectively, while Passport is the codename for Google’s upcoming foldable pixel and Slider is the codename for an unknown Google product.

If the report is to be believed, it is mildly surprising that Google would rely on a competitor like Samsung for critical components. However, we already know that Apple used Samsung components on its iPhones, so perhaps it isn’t as surprising as it sounds.

Please bear in mind that this news has not been confirmed yet and we will know what Google has in store for us come this fall when the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is officially launched in the market.
