Dimapur, August 2 (EMN): Google has officially unveiled its upcoming flagship phones today — the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. The new Google smartphones feature a punch-hole display and a camera bar on the back, however, the icing on the cake is that both Pixel phones will debut Google's very own chip called Tensor.
Google revealed the new Pixel phones in a blog post on its official blog. Google didn't reveal the hardware specifications of the upcoming phones but instead focused on the new custom-designed system on a chip (SoC) called Tensor. It has been named after the Tensor Processing Units (TPU) that Google uses in its data centres.
In a blog post, Google's Rick Osterloh Senior Vice President, Devices & Services wrote, "Tensor is our first custom-built SoC specifically for Pixel phones, and it will power the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro later this fall."
Although we do not have the new Pixel phones' official specs, Google claims that "everything about using the Pixel is better." Google states that the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will provide better user experiences thanks to the Tensor SoC optimisation.
"Tensor enables us to make the Google phones we’ve always envisioned — phones that keep getting better while tapping the most powerful parts of Google, all in a highly personalized experience. And with Tensor’s new security core and Titan M2, Pixel 6 will have the most layers of hardware security in any phone," wrote Osterloh.
Although there have been leaks about the new Pixel phones' hardware, we will only focus on the design that Google has officially unveiled.
For starters, both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will come in three colour options. The Pixel 6 Pro will have a polished aluminium frame and the Pixel 6 will have a matte aluminium finish.
Both the phones will run Android 12 with the new Material You design that was announced in this year's Google I/O.
"With Material You, we’re mixing colour science with years of work in interaction design and engineering. These UI updates are grounded in the new animation and design framework — to make using your Pixel feel incredibly natural because everything runs smoothly on the Tensor chip," wrote Osterloh.

Finally, the new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will have upgraded camera systems. We are excited to see what Google has in store for us in terms of photography, especially with the AI image processing that Google Tensor will provide.
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are expected to launch this fall.
