Goldfinch Club win Inter-Colony Fathers’ Football Tournament
DIMAPUR — Goldfinch Club, New Reserve, emerged as the champion of the eighth Kohima Lotha Hoho Inter-Colony Fathers’ Football Tournament held at IG Stadium on Wednesday after defeating United FAM 3-1.
According to an update, the champion was awarded a cash prize of INR 20,000, along with a trophy and certificate, while the runner-up, United FAM, received INR 15,000, along with a trophy and certificate. The two semi-finalist teams were presented with a cash prize of INR 5,000 each.
In the individual prizes category, Thungchibemo Kikon from Goldfinch Club, New Reserve, was adjudged player of the tournament, while the best goalkeeper award went to Benthungo Tungoe, also from Goldfinch Club, New Reserve.
The best defender award went to Shibemo Khuvung from United FAM, while the highest goal scorer award was secured by Lithungbemo Kikon from Goldfinch Club, New Reserve, with a total of nine goals scored during the tournament.
Earlier, during the exhibition matches, the Kohima Lotha Officers’ football team defeated the Kohima Lotha Hoho (KLH) 5-2, while the Inter-Denominational Women’s Department defeated the Kohima Lotha Eloe Ekhung (KLEE) 2-0.
During the closing ceremony, KN Mhonthung Lotha, chairman of the Kohima Lotha Hoho, commended all 11 teams for their participation and for demonstrating sportsman spirit throughout the tournament.
He further stated that the objective of the tournament is to strengthen bonds of friendship, promote health, and encourage the youth.
The eighth edition of the annual Inter-Colony Fathers’ Football Tournament, organised by Kohima Lotha Hoho, began on October 21.
