Dimapur, Sept. 17 (EMN): Fans of the God of War series must be hyped that a new God of War game is coming to the PS5 in 2021. At the end of the online-only PS5 showcase event, Sony teased a 1-minute trailer of God of War: Ragnarök. The new game is expected to be a direct sequel to the award-winning 2018 God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio.

2018’s God of War was an action-adventure game rooted in Norse mythology, with the majority of it set in ancient Norway in the realm of Midgard. The game followed the adventures of two protagonists: Kratos, the former Greek God of War who remains the only playable character, and his young son Atreus.

The game was a major success for Santa Monica Studio, becoming the best-selling game of the franchise and one of the best-selling PS4 games with over 12 million copies sold worldwide. 2018’s God of War received particular praise for its art direction, graphics, combat system, music, story, use of Norse mythology, characters, and cinematic feeling.

At the end of 2018’s God of War, the Norse god Thor makes an appearance raising speculation that the sequel might see Thor play a major role. After all, the 2018 God of War’s main antagonist was Thor’s brother Baldur.

In the trailer, we can see the God of War logo slowly take shape as Old Norse symbols appear on the circumference of the logo. Kratos in a voiceover then says, “You must prepare yourself” after which the words “Ragnarök is coming” are flashed on the screen.

Sony revealed the launch date and prices of its new PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition at the online event along with a host of games like Final Fantasy 16, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Resident Evil: Village, Deathloop, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, Oddsworld: Soulstorm, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, Unreal Engine 4 Fortnite gameplay and God of War: Ragnarök.
