GOC Spear Corps visits the Army-established textile unit at Zakhama, which supports local livelihoods through weaving training.

DIMAPUR — Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Spear Corps, visited the textile unit at Zakhama village in Kohima district.
According to an update, the textile unit was established by the Red Shield Division at Zakhama Military Station under the initiative of Operation Sadbhavana of the Indian Army.
The unit is currently benefiting over 30 families from Zakhama and adjoining villages, providing them with skill training in handloom weaving and empowering them to preserve indigenous Naga crafts while generating livelihoods.
The unit produces culturally significant textiles blending traditional tribal motifs, like those in Tsungkotepsu shawls, with modern materials for market sale. The textiles showcase the cultural heritage of Nagaland and cater to the growing demand for authentic, handmade products globally.

It was mentioned that the army continues to support the unit by providing looms, raw materials, structured training, and market linkages, including social media promotion, to connect artisans with external buyers.
During the visit, the GOC interacted with the women weavers, commending their efforts and the division's role in fostering economic self-reliance and military-civil bonds.
