[dropcap]L[/dropcap]ed by Goa Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’ Souza, Manipur BJP kicked off election campaign for the party candidates for the Lok Sabha polls in Manipur.
BJP is fielding two former professors of Manipur University Prof Gangmumei Kamei and Dr RK Ranjan from the Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency (hill districts) and Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency (valley districts). The polling day for Outer seat is on April 9 while the Inner seat will go to the polls on April 17.After their campaign at Noney hill station in Manipur’s Zeliangrong community dominated Tamenglong district on Thursday, the Goa Deputy Chief Minister accompanied by Prof Gangmumei Kamei, former MLAs Danny Shaiza (Ukhrul seat) and Dr Khashim Ruivah (Chingai seat) and BJP state unit functionaries on Friday drove down to the Tangkhul dominated Ukhrul district headquarters, 84 km north of Imphal to attend a similar election meeting.
The visiting Goa Deputy Chief Minister while addressing the gathering said they’re here for a change. “So the new Hope-new Manipur objective (of the party) should be our focus and it should be our end result,” he said.
“BJP is the only alternative. You cannot have a third front as they’re in chaos. So we’ve to be united in bringing the change in every developmental front,” he stated.
Prof Gangmumei Kamei said his party will work for good governance free of corruption and pro-people government besides taking up various development activities by introducing a new economic policy in the country.
The BJP also promised to ensure harmonious relationship among the different ethnic groups, protection of Manipur boundaries, separate sports and tribal varsities in Imphal, composite eco-systems at Loktak lake besides 3 Hs (horticulture, handloom and handicrafts and herbal medicines) etc once it comes to power.
The sitting Congress Lok Sabha MP Thangso Baite spoke just 15 minutes in his five years term in Parliament, alleged BJP state unit general secretary Asni. “So we need to close his chapter this time,” he said.
The reason behind the Christian Goa Deputy Chief Minister’s presence in the ongoing election campaign is to show that BJP is not against the Christianity as the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency (hill districts) is dominated by Christians, according to BJP Manipur unit functionaries.
After the campaign in Ukhrul, the team along with BJP state unit president Th Chaoba and former minister Hangkhanpao rushed to attend a similar campaign at Kuki-Chin-Zomi communities dominated Churachandpur district headquqarters.
The Goa Deputy CM is likely to leave Imphal tomorrow.
