DIMAPUR — Government Middle School Orphanage, Seithogei (GMS Seithogei), emerged champions of the KDCA Inter-School Boys U-16 Cricket Tournament by defeating Bayavü Higher Secondary School (Bayavü HSS) in the final on Monday.
The Bayavü HSS, who beat Chandmari Higher Secondary School in the nail-biting second semi-final by 4 wickets after reaching the 92-run target in exactly 20 overs with the loss of 6 wickets, were outplayed in the final.
An update received here on Monday informed that Bayavü HSS elected to bowl first after winning the toss.
Put to bat first, GMS Seithogei scored 166 runs for loss of three wickets in 25 overs, thanks to 39 runs each from Imkongtemsu and Epha, and 28 runs from Vizoletuo. The batting line-up of Bayavü HSS, however, collapsed during the run chase, managing to score only 19 runs in 11.4 overs.
GMS Seithogei’s bowling was led by 12-year-old fast bowler Dziesevotuo with 4 wickets and 3 wickets by 11-year-old leg spinning sensation Sangtsulen.
GMS Seithogei won the match by 147 runs and Dziesevotuo was declared Man of the Match for his 4 wickets haul.
Viketho Kechu, Chairman of Nagaland Cricket Association Men’s Selection Subcommittee, attended the closing ceremony and trophy presentation of the tournament.
