Kohima, April 14 (EMN):
In an attempt to teach girls how to protect themselves, an awareness and self-defence training for female students of Government High School, PWD, was conducted in Kohima on Wednesday.

It was initiated by Kohima district administration and Sakhi-one stop centre, Kohima.

Speaking at the programme, the additional deputy commissioner of Kohima, N Bhavani Sri, said that in order to prevent women from facing harassment or any sort of violence, self-defense becomes an important tool to guard themselves. It was on this basis that the training was initiated and targeted for school girls for self protection, she informed.

She also informed that similar programmes would be conducted in other locations in the coming days.

Toli Assumi from Sakhi-One stop centre, Kohima, said the one-day training will focus on teaching the school girls with basic self defence. She added that Nagaland Taekwando Association is providing self-defense class to the school students.

She added that this is the first time that the centre has initiated self-defense training although they have had series of other trainings and programmes before. Assumi added that they would be going to other schools and organise more programmes in the days to come.
