DIMAPUR — A Science laboratory at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Chümoukedima was inaugurated on Thursday in the presence of the deputy commissioner of Chümoukedima, Abhinav Shivam.

In her welcome address, the school principal, Karen Yepthomi, expressed gratitude to the DC of Chümoukedima for setting up a Science laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and required apparatus and chemicals on his own. She commended that the DC has always been a pillar of strength and support for the school over the years, a DIPR report stated.

The principal added that such rare examples of visionary leadership are a boon to society and stated that the benevolent act would usher in blessings for generations of students ahead.

In his address, the DC appreciated the endeavour of the school principal and teachers for providing excellent education and motivated them to continue with sincerity and dedication.

Shivam stated that it was a matter of shame and embarrassment to know that the best performing government school of the district did not have a Science lab for the students.

He recalled the collective efforts of the school principal, chairman of Chümoukedima Village Council (CVC), Chumoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) and others, who have strived for the betterment of school and demanded for a Science stream.

“The future of Nagaland is in the hands of the students who stand here today and one must not underestimate what an individual can do to change the society,” he said.

He advised the students to have big dreams and encouraged them to work hard to achieve success.

“This one thousand plus students resolve to work hard, then there shall be a thousand leaders, doctors, engineers, IAS officers. We wait for society and community to do something but if we want to transform the society then we need to realise our importance and work hard to realise our dreams, and that’s the only way to transform the society,” he added.

He further urged the students to stop wasting their time and work towards their dreams and think of it what they wanted to do in life.

It mentioned that llamguale A Zeliang, a student of 12 Standard (Arts stream) secured Top 5 in the HSSLC exam 2024. The school also secured hundred percent pass result in the HSSLC 2024.

Besides, the school also won the first position in the Nagaland inter-district choir competition 2024 organised by Samagra Shiksha as well as secured the 1st position in the district level marathon organised by the NISE and the Forest Department on World Environment Day 2024.
