GHSS Aghunato toilets have no doors; 2 GMSs without teachers, says student body

DIMAPUR: The Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) has expressed dismay over the acute shortage of teachers at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Aghunato, Aghiyili Government Middle School (GMS) and Akhakhu GMS.

In a letter to the principal director of School Education, the student body said that the GHSS Aghunato, which covers 52 villages and has the highest number of students in the sub-division, is faced with shortage of teachers after those teaching major subjects like Science, Maths, English, Hindi, etc. were vacated on account of retirement and transfer with no replacement.

The school building, it said, is in a deplorable condition with windows, doors and wall either broken or missing, while the toilets have no doors. Students are also faced with numerous challenges due to shortage of class room and other basic classroom facilities, it said.

The ESSU went on to say that the Aghiyili GMS and Akhakhu GMS, which used perform well in the past, are left with no teachers, thus depriving students of the two schools of their educational rights.

While maintaining that the department has not shown any sign of seriousness despite repeated appeals, the union urged the concerned authority to address the issues without discriminating against the downtrodden.
