Dimapur, Sep. 1 (EMN): Government High School (GHS) in Medziphema town initiated a pre-vocational field trip for students from class 6 to 8 to SASRD, NU, Medziphema campus, on August 31.
An update from the school informed that the programme was in line with the guidelines of NEP 2020 and as per directives from the Samagra Shiksha, government of Nagaland.
The main objective of the field trip was to introduce pre-vocational education and exposure of the students to the world outside the class room to create awareness on the various productive activities, develop expertise in one particular skill and prepare the students to identify their interests before they attain high school, it stated.
The programme was organised and conducted under the directive of dean of SASRD, Prof. Akali Sema and in coordination with STINER-TFC, SASRD, Nagaland University.
The students were divided into four groups and guided to six different departments including horticulture farm, agronomy farm, livestock production and management farm, plant protection block and STINER-TFC demonstration units, where experts from each department exhibited various activities undertaken for the welfare of the farmers in particular, it stated.
Overall, the students were sensitised on the role and importance of agriculture for attaining a sustainable economy and future. The programme started with an introductory note from the dean of SASRD, who also encouraged feed-back from the teachers and students at the conclusion of the field trip programme.
A total of 174 students and five teachers participated in the field trip.
