GEORGE CLOONEY’S said he will do whatever it takes to help Hillary Clinton get elected — and now the “Money Monster” star’s putting his money where his mouth is.
Sources tell Page Six that plans are being hashed out for Clooney to help host a star-studded fund-raiser that could raise millions for Clinton as the race closes.
Clooney previously said that for Clinton he’d do “whatever she wants, whatever way I can help,” but his new swell of support is coming at the same time he publicly bashed GOP front-runner Donald Trump as a “xenophobic fascist” this week.He said of Clinton on Thursday, “I am a Hillary supporter. I am doing a fund-raiser for her.”
In 2012, Clooney hosted a $40,000-per-head fund-raiser for Barack Obama at his LA home that raked in $15 million from deep-pocketed guests including Barbra Streisand, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Diane von Furstenberg.
And those were the days when serious Clooney was still dating an ex-professional wrestler, Stacy Keibler, who was on his arm at the starry event. Now he’ll have wife Amal, the international human-rights lawyer, at his side, who could further help pump the political punters.
Clooney also this week dinged Clinton’s Democratic rival Bernie Sanders, telling the Guardian, “I really love Bernie Sanders . . . He is forcing the conversation to things that never get talked about in US politics: disparity between the rich and the poor, which is getting worse and worse every day.” But he said the platform’s also Sanders’ “downfall.”
Meanwhile, liberal Clooney, 54, could have more time to devote to political causes since he’s said he’s contemplating quitting acting — “As you age on-screen you get to that point where you really understand that, you know, you can’t stay in front of the camera your whole life.”
Insiders assumed that one of three planned March 24 Clinton fund-raisers in LA would be hosted by Clooney. But the “Hail, Caesar!” star’s in-the-works shindig has yet to be announced. The March 24 events will include a downtown LA “Evening With Hillary,” according to Hollywood blog deadline.com.
