Genshin Impact wins game of the year on Apple App Store and Google Play

Dimapur, Dec. 3 (EMN): As the year 2020 comes to an end, both Google Play and Apple App Store announced their game of the year on their platforms and they both chose the same game – Genshin Impact. However, Google Play has given the game of the year honour to a different game for India, Legends of Runeterra. The winners for Google Play awards differ from region to region. Although Google Play’s game of the year for India is a different game, Genshin Impact has exceedingly won the top honour in many other countries.

Released on September 28, 2020, Genshin Impact is a free-to-play role-playing game from Chinese publisher, miHoYo. The game features open-world gameplay with gacha mechanics and has achieved immediate success upon its release. According to data from Sensor Tower, the game grossed over $393 million on mobile devices within two months of its launch.

In a report, Essentially Sports wrote, “The game has already been streamed 93,000 times by 39,000 streamers on Twitch, garnering a viewership of 2.7 million.” Apart from mobile, the game is also available for the PS4, PS5, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is also reportedly in the works.

In India, however, Legends of Runeterra grabbed Google Play‘s game of the year award. Legends of Runeterra is a strategy card game from Riot Games set in the world of League of Legends. It has over 5 million downloads on the Google Play Store at the time of writing this report.
